THE HEALING BREATH WORKSHOP (PRANAYAMA)  It is a paradox - in order to breathe better, we need to learn how to breathe less.  Our stress-filled lives and poor posture affect the quality of the breath, reducing our breathing capacity by as much as 30 percent.  A well-developed breath is an important part of your Yoga practice, it can help take your asana/postures to a whole new level.  But more importantly, full diaphragmatic breath is an essential tool in healing - it promotes the "rest and digest" parasympathetic neurological response.  In this workshop you will learn the anatomy and physiology of breathing and some helpful techniques that can be used to address a variety of needs.  Certain breathing practices are stimulating and energizing, while others are calming and relaxing, and it is important to know their effects to achieve the desired results.  Improperly done or inappropriately chosen practice can sometimes do more harm than good.  Anna Mikheeva is a Yoga Therapist and will bring her therapists' perspective to the workshop and explain how to tailor your breathing exercises to your particular needs.
